Adventures in Delta8 – Mixing a custom cart

Having enjoyed retail Δ⁸ vape carts for the past couple months, I noticed that the options were lacking in terms of variety. All the manufacturers are using a high purity Δ⁸ distillate and mixing in botanical terpenes. Some are starting to use hemp derived terpenes, but those are currently only a few. While Δ⁸ by itself is a decent experience, I found that mixing it with other cannabinoids(like smokeable hemp) really brought out the effects to be more well rounded and enveloping thanks to the entourage effect. With the variety of options available in terms of Δ⁸ and hemp distillate, I decided to start making my own.

To start, I picked up some Δ⁸ distillate from Greene Rush Hemp. Their supplier has been putting out higher and higher purity products and also tested the distillate against a full panel for purity, pesticides, metals, and residual solvents.

Having tried botanical terpenes and experienced the harshness, I was focused on finding hemp or cannabis derived ones as others have reported them to be much smoother and encourage the entourage effect. I purchased a few hemp distillates, but for this first cart I used some purchased from Apical Greens and having Sour Diesel terpenes, which they report to be cannabis derived.

Mixing the cart was pretty easy, but I did prepare with several supplies. To start, I warmed all the distillates and CCell vape cart in my oven at 190F for 15 minutes. I had a beaker sitting on a hotplate and glass stir rod ready for when everything was at temperature. Taking everything out of the oven, I put roughly .25mL of the hemp distillate and .75mL of the Δ⁸ into the beaker and gave it a quick stir for a 3:1 Δ⁸ to hemp ratio. After that I sucked it back up into a syringe and dispensed it into the CCell.

I waited a day to vape the cart to let the air work its way out of the ceramic of the cart(atleast, that is what I read should be done). First thing I noticed was that the vape was incredibly smooth, way smoother than the retail carts using botanical terpenes. It still took roughly 20 minutes to feel the effects of the Δ⁸ and the experience was what I was hoping for.

A full mix of cannabinoids provided a significant entourage experience where I found myself not wanting to smoke any of the hemp I had to enhance the feeling. It provided significant relaxation compared to the normal Δ⁸ I have grown accustomed to. I think this is my new favorite mix of cannabinoids and I look forward to further experiments with ratios.

3chi Delta-8 THC 600mg Tincture Review

Δ⁸ THC is quickly becoming my new favorite thing. The biggest draw to this substance is that it is federally legal and available for purchase online from a variety of vendors. As someone how is curious by nature, finding new ways to explore the benefits of cannabis is a bit if a passion of mine. After trying some Δ⁸ vape carts, I decided to give the tincture a whirl.

The tincture from 3chi is 600mL of Δ⁸ THC in 30mL of oil and flavoring, which gives 20mg of Δ⁸ THC per 1mL dropper. Having used delta-9 THC tinctures and edibles before, I decided for my first dose I would target roughly 15mg of Δ⁸ which would be .75mL of the dropper.

The tincture is practically clear, which is what we would expect to see with a highly concentrated Δ⁸ product. This tincture, according to the lab results, has 80% purity in the extract. It has a bit of a fruity and pineapple like taste. I held it under my tongue for several minutes to take it subinguinally instead of having the majority of oil observed through my digestive tract.

7:45pm – Tincture taken

8:20pm – Starting to feel some effects. I’m experiencing the “heaviness” in the eyes.

8:45pm – Definitely feeling stoned. Mood is quite elevated and body is very relaxed. The body feeling is a bit more intensified than compared to the vape.

9:30pm – Munchies setting in.

10:00pm – By this point the effects have set in. Definitely more of a body stoned like I’ve experienced with regular edibles. Mood is very elevated and body almost completely relaxed. At this point I also start smoking a bowl of Deschutes hemp.

11:20pm – Going to bed feeling completely relaxed.

I’d have to take the tincture during the day to observe how long the effects lasted. But sufficed to say my evening was quite enjoyable. One of the differences I noted(vape vs tincture) was that the “alertness” that came from the vape was not as overpowering with the tincture.

3chi Jack Herer Delta8 Vape – Review

Prohibition has robbed humanity and society from the many benefits of the Cannabis Sativa L plant. In the past several years we have seen almost seismic shifts in policy and regulation including full recreational legalization and medical marijuana programs. With the passing of the 2018 Farm Bill, however, legalized hemp has exploded in popularity which provided many benefits including CBD and exploring additional cannabinoids.

One of these new cannabinoids of focus is delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol. Delta-8 THC, or D8 for short, is an THC isomer that is very similar, but not exactly like it’s cousin delta-9(delta-9 is the majority of THC found in cannabis that gives us the high). Leafly has a breakdown of some of the differences between D8 and D9. CBD has recently been removed from the controlled substances schedule list while delta-9 remains firmly at schedule 1. What is interesting is that delta-8, derived from hemp, falls into some interesting legal loopholes regarding its status. This site provides a breakdown of the why, however the TL;DR is that D8 coming from USDA compliant hemp is legal while D8 coming from marijauna would not be.

With all this coming together, I became aware of some D8 vape carts and began investigating. The first vendor I found was 3chi. After reviewing their lab reports, emailing them with several questions, and checking with the actual lab, I decided it was a safe avenue to pursue and ordered my first cart. I did end up ordering from a third party seller and received one of their older formulations with only 80% D8-THC instead of what they have listed now of 90% D8.

The .5mL cart requires a vape pen, which I also purchased along with this order. I kept myself completely sober for the first try of D8, including limiting my intake of CBD to only my morning oil. I waited for the kids to go to bed then took my first hit.

My first hit was a long draw which lasted 3-4 seconds. I didn’t change any settings on the pen, I believe it was at the max voltage of 4V. The intake was rather smooth and the exhaled vapor had a strong Limonene flavor, as expected by the 11.2mg/g in the cart according to the lab results.

The effects began to take hold within 10 minutes. 20 minutes in and I was feeling the full sensation of delta-8. It was way more of a body feeling with much less of an anxious head-rush that can be accompanied with delta-9. I felt very euphoric going into the hour mark and also experienced being lost in thoughts, and some time distortion effects as well. The D8 also produced a rhythmic pulsing throughout my body, starting at my core and going to my extremities, much like the waves of the ocean. It was very steady and very calming.

After about an hour I started to develop the munchies, but nothing overpowering like I have experienced with full delta-9 cannabis. I also noticed no dry mouth sensation, which I thought was curious. I also noticed my mood was uplifted and relaxed, however, I was not full on laughing like what would happen with delta-9 cannabis.

Overall, for a legal product, these delta-8 carts are amazing. The price-point is attractive since it takes so little for it to work. Since this is our current only legal option in NY, and I found the effects to be very pleasant, I foresee myself continuing to use delta-8 carts.

As a reminder, be sure to always verify the COA with any CBD/hemp product to ensure you are getting a safe product.
